It's that time of year once again when you see hearts and boxes of chocolates everywhere you go. Valentine’s day has become a worldly known day to celebrate relationships and love. It has become significant in many different cultures and it is still evolving. On this day people give out cards, flowers, candy, and other gifts to their loved ones. How can you celebrate? There are many ways to celebrate this lovely holiday. Some common things people do is go out to dinner, set a romantic scene, have a movie night, have spa treatments, and go to Valentine themed events. Palisade student Carley Harris stated, “A lot of people don't like Valentine’s Day because they don't have someone they can spend time with, but I think it's a nice day to hang out with friends and relax if you don't have a significant other.” A lot of people spend Valentine’s Day with their friends and exchange gifts. It’s no surprise. According to bankrate.com, the average American is planning to spend $192.80 on Valentine’s Day gifts this year. 10 percent higher than last year. That goes to show how seriously some people have been treating Valentine’s Day this year. Over the years more and more people have been buying more stuff on Valentine’s Day for their friends, family, and significant others. This Valentine’s Day will be one to remember. There are even events happening here in Grand Junction. Some of them include 50% off pet adoption at Roice-Hurst Humane Society, Valentine’s Day Karaoke, Valentine’s Day night at Angelo’s Pottery, and many more events.
