Athlete of the Week Swim Feature: Amara Nowak

Palisade Senior, Amara Nowak is one out of three female Athletes of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Amara does swim and she is usually a freestyler. Amara swims for Grand Junction High School because Palisade does not have their own swim team. When asked about her background on swimming she said, “I have been swimming since I was 9 years old. My older brother swam on the high school team and it just looked like a lot of fun to me.”  Amara has been swimming for Grand Junction High School since her freshman year, except for her sophomore year due to covid. Amara’s favorite thing about swimming is, “I love how I can think clearly and push myself to become better.” Other than school and swimming, Amara said she likes to, “Be outside, shopping, and doing hair and makeup.” When asked who her biggest inspiration is she said, “My mom is because she has always been there for me and she always pushes me to do my best.” Amara was asked what advice she would give to an incoming freshman athlete and she responded with, “Don’t get caught up about going to state, you still have the next three years to go.” She is absolutely right. With it being Amara’s senior year here at Palisade High School, she was asked what she is going to miss and she replied with, “Everything, making new friends, going to competitions, and learning new skills.” Inside of swimming, Amara’s biggest accomplishment is “going to state my senior year.” This is a huge accomplishment that was made by Amara as she put in a lot of hard work and dedication into it. Amara and the other state qualifiers left February the 7th, so wish Amara and the others luck!
