Female Athlete of The Week: Lyla Lancaster

Palisade freshman, Lyla Lancaster, is the female Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Lyla plays volleyball, basketball, and golf. She has had an awesome basketball season with a total of 43 steals and 4 blocks, as well as 34 assists and 84 points scored. Lyla said, “I have been playing basketball since 2nd grade. My mom just signed me up one time and took me to practice because a bunch of friends were doing it. I thought it was fun, but I didn’t think that it was going to get that serious.” When asked what her favorite thing about the sport is, she replied, “I like the bonds that I make in basketball and the friendships. I started basketball with the Taylor twins in 2nd grade and we have been friends since then.” Outside of school and sports Lyla said, “I like photography. That is probably my favorite. We have cattle so I would just take pictures of them all the time. I really enjoy doing that.” Photography is a skill that Lyla picked up and kind of just taught herself. After Lyla was asked who her biggest inspiration is she said, “My sister. She is always going and she is always there for me.” Lyla was asked what her greatest accomplishment is in basketball. She replied, “Probably just growing in confidence. I started high school off super timid just because you know 'Varsity, freshmen.'” After a little I grew more confident in playing and in myself.” Lyla’s advice that she would give to an incoming freshman athlete is, “Play to your full potential.”
