A new drug has made its way into the streets of Grand Junction. Fentanyl is one of the most dangerous drugs to be created. Compared to Heroin one dose is 100,000 micrograms and is less likely to kill you than if you consume 700 micrograms of fentanyl.
In the past two weeks, police have found more and more drugs on our streets. They have been found in the form of everyday pills, pills that look like opioids, and candy form that has taken the name rainbow candy. Parents have become very worried about sending their children into the world with the new dangers that they have to face. A parent at Palisade High School says “I think it is terrible, it is nothing like I have ever seen before. By far the worst drug epidemic I have lived through. I am worried that you don’t even have to be the person doing the drugs. You can go out and touch something with fentanyl on it and it could kill you.” She added “it is a terrifying thought for every parent with children living through this time. You never know when or how it could affect your family and your life.”
Braeleigh MacAskill and her family were recently in a bad situation where police retrieved 5000 fentanyl pills from suspicious people in their neighborhood. “It is obviously scary knowing how prominent it is. We live in a good neighborhood and knowing that there was a drug bust is very scary.” Remember to stay safe and be smart while out in town.
