A bitter-sweet ending came for our Freshman team this past weekend as they played in their last tournament of the season. The games were hosted at Palisade High School on Saturday, February 11th, for almost the entire duration of the day. Both our boys and girls teams had an early morning start with their first game starting at 8:00 am. The girls played four games at 8:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 5:00 pm. The girls won three of their four games this tournament. “We used a lot of sisterhood and treated each other like family, and that definitely led us to the win. I think it was a good season. We started out kind of weird because none of us were super close to each yet, but as we went through the season we were able to work on not only our skills but our teamwork, which was super important to our playing.” Says Ava Heil, a Freshman on our Palisade C team. The boy's team seemed to agree with the answer, saying that connection as a team is crucial to play well in games. “It was a bittersweet last game because it's been such a great season and we have all improved so much. The season start off a little rough, but we were able to really come together as a team and win some big games toward the end. As a team, we all got so much better from when we started and I think that’s what it’s all about. Improving and getting your teammates better is super important.” Says Branson Springer, a member of the Palisade Freshman boys team. Springer has been playing basketball since he was young and racked up 50 points throughout the tournament. Though the boys only won one of their five games, they were placed with a triple header, playing games at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm. Congratulations to our Freshman Basketball team on their first season, and good luck to our Varsity Bulldogs as they finish theirs out. Go Bulldogs!
