The Grand Junction Police Department is asking the public for help finding two possible thieves connected to a burglary at a construction site. They are accused of trespassing on a construction site in the 600 blocks of 26 and ½ Road. Police say they stole multiple items, and when added up they took more than $3,400 worth of equipment. With the raise in the price of construction equipment, robberies like this have been popping up regularly. In Grand Junction as a whole, our crime rate has gone up tremendously. With it being at 49 per one thousand residents. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 20. Making Grand Junction one of the highest crime rates in the U.S.
Palisade student Olivia Talley stated, “The growing crime rates make me nervous. You never know what’s going to happen, it’s so unpredictable.” The reason crimes have been going up so much is because of poverty and lack of the consequences of actions. Therefore our government should think of solutions to this problem to make people feel safer. Yes, the overall crime rate has gone up in Grand Junction, but why exactly? We can’t tell for sure, but some believe it’s the same reason crime rates have gone up across the United States, poverty. With a growing homelessness rate in Grand Junction, the crime rate seems to be spiking as well. We should all come together and think of a solution so we can stay safe and feel safe.
