Trevin Brannon, a junior at Palisade has had the honor of being chosen as one of our athletes of the week. Trevin is a wrestler and a football player, and this year we have gained a new lacrosse player since he has decided to try it out. In football, Trevin plays running back and linebacker and for lacrosse, he is going to play midfield. For Trevins weight division in wrestling he places in the 150lbs area.
We asked Trevin since it is wrestling season and the sport he is playing right now, how long he has been wrestling. “I have been wrestling since my 8th-grade year, so four years now.” We asked what had gotten him started in wrestling, “My sister took me to a high school wrestling duel. I didn't really wanna do it at first but it looked really interesting so I joined.” He has been playing for all 3 years he has been attending Palisade. We asked how he liked playing wrestling at Palisade, “I like it a lot because they're known for the one thing that we do which is cradles but they're known for a lot more which is building us for outside of wrestling for being a better human as well.” Trevin also talked about his favorite thing about wrestling, “I like how close our teammates get you know. The bond that we make. It’s not just about the best record or who's the best wrestler up there. It’s about making that friendships with everyone and building that, you know, brotherly love we have.” We asked if he thought team atmosphere is important for wrestling, “I do because if you have a bad energy or some negative energy with somebody up there it’s gonna be a bad day or something like that, and if you're not good with your coaches then you can’t get better as a person.” Team spirit is a big thing not just for the people who participate in the sport but also for everyone in the school who needs to show it.
We continued to ask Trevin if he had anyone who he looked up to, “I really look up to Keaton Young or Tyrus Despian, they push me to be better as a wrestler and as a human being.” We asked Trevin if he would share what he believed to be his greatest accomplishments during wrestling, “My greatest accomplishments definitely would be making state this year. It was a struggle last year, I didn’t do great but. Even this year I didn’t do great but I really figured out what I had to do, and yeah biggest accomplishment.”
State is coming up and we need as many supporters as possible. Make sure you show up and cheer on your wrestling team!
