Watching a movie where four old ladies travel to the Superbowl to see MVP Tom Brady sounds like a good plot, but in all honesty it was just a let down. I wanted to enjoy this movie so badly with my high expectations soaring considering how much I love the cast which included Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno. This dramatic comedy had its funny moments with the ladies as they traveled across the country, but many parts of it were just cringey. Perhaps I only enjoyed it because I was watching it with my Tom-Brady-Obsessed friend, because if I was watching this alone I would stop halfway through. This movie had its ups and downs, with me laughing in some comedic parts and me sighing in some others. Rita Moreno definitely delivered with her performance, being the stereotypical “hot-older-one,” making me cackle everytime she was on the screen, and so did Lily Tomlin with her humorous dramatic acting that was out of this world. I understand this is meant to be a feel-good movie, but I just laughed out loud with the cringeness of it all. Tom Brady also should never get a career in acting and needs to stick with football, him trying to be sentimental just doesn’t make the cut for me. This felt like a Netflix original with the cringeness of it all, but there were definitely some moments I enjoyed. Would I ever watch this movie voluntarily again? No, but I would watch it with a friend who understands the cringeness of it all.
