It’s that time of the year when it starts to get below-freezing temperatures. Many states are putting out winter weather alerts and warnings due to the harsh snow and weather conditions. Winter Storm Warning is used when heavy snow, or a combination of hazardous winter phenomena, is expected.
With the terrible weather comes the likelihood of getting sick and catching many different viruses like Influenza known as the flu, the common cold, rhinoviruses, parainfluenza, seasonal coronavirus, etc. Though it is known that cold weather is not the exact reason for getting people sick, it does lower immunity in the nose and makes us more susceptible to viruses like the ones listed above.
Many schools have closed for the week, or like Palisade have had a delayed start to the school day, due to wanting kids to get to schools safely without any problems on the road due to the snow and ice. Palisade's delay was only 2 hours, and there are many different opinions on whether or not they liked it. Delylah Swofford, someone from the freshman class said in an interview, “I don’t really like the cold weather. It just makes me feel sad and I don’t like not being able to feel my face and hands.” As this interview was taken Delylah was talking about how cold it was outside after lunch to where her legs and face were red. Delylah also added, “I’m much more of a spring person rather than winter because the vibes are so much warmer and it makes me feel happy and calm.” Winter may be pretty with all the snow but it carries many hazards. So stay bundled up out there and keep warm.
