Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. For the past couple of weeks, our Palisade Student Council has been partnering with Vitalent, a donation company located in Grand Junction, to help provide for those in need. Anyone at the ages of 16 years or older were viable for the donation process and gave blood for those who are less fortunate. Student Council was coordinating with the company, which they were then emailed a list of the proper procedures as well as the necessary permission slips and schedules. “We started posting advertisements about two weeks before the donation day, and about a week before we set up a table in the lobby at lunch to gain attention.” Says Dylan McNally. Dylan is a freshman here at Palisade, and is a proud member of our Student Council. She is a member of a separate committee in StuCo which is responsible for setting up the donations. The students in the committee were in charge of gathering a group of donors, giving attention to the event through advertising, as well as making sure every donor had filled out the proper paperwork. Vitalent was responsible for the medical procedures. Donation Day was February 7th, starting at 9:00 AM and going until 1:30 PM. “It was really important for us to make sure the event was well known. Helping those in need is really important to us at Palisade. Though we didn’t draw up much of a crowd, we were able to get about 25 donors. This was a good number because every drop counts to help those in need.” McNally says. Thank you to all of those who donated at this event. Hospitals are always in need of blood, so if you ever receive the opportunity to donate, take it, and help save a life.
