This last Monday, February 20th was Presidents Day. One tradition among the soccer community is to play in a tournament against teams from all over during this weekend. The tournament was hosted in Phoenix, Arizona at Bell Bank Park. One of our very own club teams here from the valley, Fire FC, played in this tournament including players from our Palisade boys and girls team. Hayleigh Wing is a freshman here at Palisade, and competed in this tournament with Fire FC. Wing has been playing soccer for nine years, all of which have been with Fire, and is hoping to play for our girls team this spring. Her team did really well, and made it all the way to the finals. “This tournament was super fun, and I really loved getting to experience such a big event with all of my teammates. All of the games were pretty close, and its really cool that we made it to the finals.” Wing says. However, she believes that the referees at this event were less than competent. “In the last five minutes the other team scored. I’d like to say it was the refs fault. The refs there seemed very unprofessional and unqualified, for such a big tournament.” She states. Good job this tournament players, remember to keep those skills sharp for our upcoming girls soccer season here at Palisade. We’ll see you there. Go Bulldogs!
