Lights, camera, and action! This past week from December first to the third, Palisade’s Drama department traveled down to Denver for the annual Thescon - a large convention for theater kids all over the state. Blake Larson, a sophomore, has been doing theater since he was seven years old. This is his second year being a part of Palisade’s theater program. “I love theater because it’s a great opportunity to express emotions and become a family with a group of people. I also just love being on the stage.” Colorado Thescon is a giant convention full of workshops to provide insight to students interested in theater along with shows they can watch as well. Thousands of student actors attended. Blake’s favorite part was going behind the scenes and learning more about theater management because he is also a part of the Thespian Society here at Palisade. “It was a great opportunity and I’m so glad I went. I really enjoyed meeting with professionals and learning more from them, I couldn’t be more blessed to have that opportunity.” Overall, Thescon was a success as Palisade’s drama theater learned from experts while also growing closer together. “I’m very excited to attend Thescon next year as well,” Blake remarked. In order to fund their shows, the theater is having a weekly Waffle Wednesday. The waffle is $2 and the toppings are $1 each. Make sure to grab a waffle in Dog Run to support our local theater program. The theater is also currently rehearsing for the musical this spring, Once Upon A Mattress so don’t miss it.
