Bikers hit the road for the return of the 43rd annual ‘Western Slope Toy Run.’ People who own motorcycles meet at the Harley-Davidson dealership for a good cause. They throw toys in the back of their motorcycles and ride across town to Grand Mesa Middle School to present the donations to the Salvation Army. It happens every year, rain or shine or cold weather but it’s a huge help every time. If you missed the Toy Run you could still drop off toys at the Salvation Army office, located at 1235 N 4th St, Grand Junction, CO 81501. One of the locals that dropped off toys Jermey Garrett stated, “I absolutely love it! I got toys to give and it is great for the community and it gives people a different perspective on bikers. It gives kids the opportunity to receive toys their families may not be able to provide for them. I think it’s an amazing idea because it helps many kids and families.” This is the first time in two years that the Toy Run has run. Due to Covid-19 numbers, bikers were not able to do their yearly tradition. On Saturday the people gave the Salvation Army a huge number of toys making it the most they’ve had yet. Hundreds of motorcycles line the street for nearly 300 yards. Making it the most people that have been there yet. These toys are going to the Salvation Army so they can wrap them up and give them to those kids who aren't set up to have a great Christmas just to make their Christmas day a bit more special. It’s a ride to kick off the holiday season for the bikers and a way people can do what they love while supporting the community. Having the ride, keeping the tradition alive for 42 years, it’s something to look forward to and obviously, all the bikers look forward to it. Thank you to those all who went and donated toys.
