An emotional atmosphere fell upon the gym on Wednesday night as Palisade’s senior wrestlers walked to the center of the mat with flowers, family, and goodbyes. The dedication the boys put in throughout the season, no matter the experience, meant so much more than just a sport. “I love the effort you have to put in,” says junior Brady Russell, “I like being challenged because after you win a match there’s no other feeling like that.” Brady has been wrestling for 2 years and can’t wait to see where he goes from here. “Senior year is gonna be awesome.” he exclaims, already excited to see what his last year will look like, “but I’m going to miss this year's seniors for sure.” Mr. Guajardo, a Spanish teacher at Palisade, introduced each senior and read their small speech, sharing what they were planning to do after high school, their hopes, and their recommendations. Parents carried out flowers and posters showcasing their sons, proud of all their hard work. You could see in each senior’s eyes as they stood in front of the crowd how proud they were, reviewing everything they’ve accomplished and done throughout their high school career with wrestling. Palisade even congratulated fellow opponent seniors from Fruita for their graduation and journey throughout the sport. After announcements, the matches began. Unfortunately, the bulldogs had a tough loss against Fruita 51 to 17 but they put in their best effort. We congratulate the senior wrestlers and all the work they’ve put in for this sport. We wish them all the best whether they continue their passion for the sport after high school or not and just all the best in their futures.
