Western Colorado’s popular local Colorado Winefest, an annual festival that lets people taste and learn about wine, has finally released the finalists for their art contest. Each year talented artists around the valley submit artwork in the hopes they will win. The winner will have their artwork displayed on T-shirts, posters, and other items for this year’s winefest along with a prize of $700. The theme was to represent Colorado’s growing wine industry. The finalists are Jeffrey Pickett, Alice Moody, and Jeffrey Pike. Each piece features vibrant colors. “Harvest Time” by Jeffrey Pickett features realistic grapevines and“Palisade Wine Company” by Jeffrey Pike shares almost an abstract meal full of wine, grapes, and a cat in the background. “This Is How We Do It” by Alice Moody shares silhouettes of three people against a mountain with wine glasses and grapes. Jeffrey Pike also features a second art piece also titled “Palisade Wine Company” which shares three faceless women in vibrant colors celebrating with wine. All four pieces are amazingly crafted and beautiful. Voting on these four final pieces to select the winner opened on January 13 and the last day to vote is January 27 the winner will also be announced on this day. But no matter the winner, all four works will be featured in an exhibit at the Craig Gallery in Palisade which will be displayed through February 4. “I just love winefest,” says wine lover and teacher at Palisade Mrs. Jodie, “including other events such as artwork that aren’t just wine is amazing. I also love socializing at the festival, the food, and just everything wine.” This contest is hosted by the Colorado Association for Viticulture and Enology.
