As everyone flies in and out of Grand Junction the construction continues nearby on their new runway. The 150 million dollar project is stated to be finally completed by 2030. Sixteen scrapers were going back and forth across the construction site the other day hauling 30 yards worth of dirt. This work itself will continue until about the end of 2024. Colin Bible, the manager, answered some questions asked by the people. The reason it’s going to take so long and use so much money is that it’s like a timeline because of the method the FAA uses to grant funds. The airport's executive manager, Angela Padalecki answered some questions as well she said she expects to get 20 million dollars or more from the FAA per year for this project over the next few years. The designer of the runway project is Wisconsin based. As of now most of the site is covered in mud and snow, meaning the soil hasn't been very corruptive. It's difficult for them to find the right balance in the soil. Palisade Student Brooklyn Kelley stated, “I think it will be a nice addition, and maybe in the future Grand Junction will grow.” The soil we have here tends to be drier than in other places, meaning if it's too dry and they are working with it, it will just crumble and fall apart. Making the project a lot harder than it needs to be. It may take a while for them to create this new addition to the airport, but it will be a nice thing to have once they are finished and will hopefully help the community expand the airport even more.
