On January 19th, while wrestling North Fork, Keyton Young joined the elite group of high school wrestlers who have achieved 100 wins. Keyton has worked relentlessly through all four seasons of his High School career to reach this impressive feat.
Keyton began showing his skill his Freshman year, where he went 19-4. He was just getting started showing off his skill, however, his Sophomore year was hit with Covid, which restricted how many people the wrestlers could come into contact with. Even with these backsets, Keyton still managed to go 21-4. Already having 40 wins just halfway through his High School career. However, the most impressive season would come with Keyton’s Junior year, where he would go 47-8, while also going to States. With a total of 87 wins, Keyton only needed 13 more, the final of which he earned on January 19.
Back home at Palisade, the wrestlers were faced up against North Fork High School. Our team had been down by some points, which could be discouraging for a lot of competitors. But Keyton was ready. Keyton took down his opponent and the announcers informed Keyton and the crowd that it was his 100th win. Keyton’s cousins presented him with a congratulations poster.
Keyton told The Daily Sentinel, “It feels great when you look at it as 100 matches, it’s a big deal. But to me, that was just another match.” Keyton continues to impress us and represent Palisade and we can’t wait to see the rest of his senior season.
