“Die Hard with Santa Claus.” That’s what fans are calling the masterpiece that is Violent Night, and frankly they’re correct. Universal’s new holiday movie may become a Christmas classic, it already is on my list. Starring David Harbour (famously known as Hopper in Stranger Things) as Santa with a Viking-inspired history, the film holds violence that is perfectly paired with humorous comedy. The film follows a team of robbers who break into a wealthy house and hold everyone hostage, but they don’t know Santa is on the grounds and might end up on the naughty list. Good Old Saint Nick wasn’t so nice in the movie, and I was all there for it. Whether it be punching a man and throwing him out the window where he gets brutally stabbed through the chest with an icicle, piercing a man's eye with the star found on top of the Christmas tree, or simply just using his mighty hammer to slay the robbers, Santa wasn’t here to play. “It was definitely a movie worth the money,” says Sedona Zoobi, a sophomore who tagged along with me to see the movie. “I enjoyed all the humor and violence put together, it sort of reminded me of a Christmas Deadpool.” Not only is the movie full of violence and humor, but it also gets sentimental in some parts. One of the hostages, a little girl, connects with Santa through a walkie talkie and helps the old man find his Jolly self again. Although with a runtime of almost two hours, it was worth it. Full of action, the right amount of violence, and witty humor, this is a movie I am sure will become a holiday classic.
