On a Monday night in Grand Junction, four people who are at the moment unidentified were rushed to the hospital due to cars colliding. The accident was initially caused when two cars slid into a parking lot before striking two additional cars and even a forklift. This happened on Pitkin Ave. At the moment investigators are saying that the speed they were going could have played a major factor in their injuries and the crash itself. At least one of the four people was an employee of a nearby business, according to an eyewitness. Police have also said that the accident caused a lot of property damage. Palisade student Kaedyn Nielsen stated, “I hope everyone is okay, hearing that four people were seriously injured is terrifying.” Why are motor accidents happening more often? We can’t know for sure, but what we do know is that most accidents are caused by people being distracted while driving. Some ways you can stay focused while driving consist of making sure you already know where you’re going, putting away your electronic distractions, not multitasking while driving, avoiding eating, and don’t drive when tired or drowsy. When we make sure we are driving safely we will reduce the number of car accidents. Studies say that in the year 2019 there were 986,000 accidents caused by distracted driving and out of these accidents 2,895 people lost their lives. If we just pay attention to what we are doing while driving we could easily bring down these numbers.
