How exactly did former president Donald Trump sit down for a dinner on Tuesday between two very antisematic celebrities? This Thanksgiving feast was eaten between the white nationalist Nick Fuentes and the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. Both of these men have a large problematic history full of antisematic remarks and denies of the Holocaust. Trump gained much criticism for this, even from his fellow Republicans. “President Trump hosting racial antisemites for dinner encourages other racist antisemites. These attitudes are immoral and should not be entertained. This is not the Republican Party.” tweeted Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican from Louisiana. Ye recently lost billions of dollars of net worth after businesses cut ties with him for giving multiple statements that have angered many in the Black community, including his insistence that slavery was a “choice,” “racism is a dated concept,” and most recently his inclusion of “White Lives Matter” shirts in his fashion line. These remarks caused large companies that he was partnered with including Adidas and Balenciaga to end their relationship with him. Fuentes has made multiple problematic statements throughout his career that haven’t gained him the greatest crowd. He continually states “whites are under attack” and that minorities are changing the “texture of life.” Yet his most controversial statement when he denied the Holocaust and compared Jews burnt in concentration camps to cookies in an oven. Even our own students here in Palisade have some things to say. “Trump was not thinking when he did that.” says Alex Morral, a senior at Palisade. All of these reasons are why this Thanksgiving dinner broke the political world.
