Male Athlete of The Week: Josh Zotto

Palisade Senior, Josh Zotto, is the male Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Josh plays basketball and baseball. He has had a great season so far with a total of 1.4 steals per game and 5 rebounds per game. He also has 1.3 assists per game and .6 blocks per game. Josh has been playing basketball for about 9-10 years. He talked about the season so far and said “There have definitely been a couple of games where I thought we should have pulled through, but other than that I think it is going pretty good.” When asked what got him started into basketball he said, “A bunch of my friends were doing it and growing up I always wanted to be around them and I followed what they did.” Most of those friends go to Grand Junction High School. Josh has been playing basketball for Palisade since freshman year. When asked what his favorite thing about the sport is he said, “The brotherhood that comes with it. Obviously winning is fun, but after the game when we win, we are having fun in the locker room and it brings us closer together.” Some of Josh’s hobbies outside of school are that he likes to “Be outside, work on cars, and focus on the sport.” When asked who his biggest inspiration is he said, “My mom. She has been there since day one and always helped me through the hard times. I wasn’t going to play basketball this year and she kind of influenced me into doing it.” What Josh is going to miss about being a high school athlete is “Going home everyday after school and not having practice or anything like that.” Josh’s advice he would give to an incoming freshman athlete is “Aside from sports, definitely work on your academic part of it. Sportswise I would just not be afraid to give it your all at all times.” Josh does not plan to continue basketball in college, but he does plan on continuing baseball in college.
