The Palisade High School boy’s basketball team had a busy weekend with 3 games in 5 days. To start the weekend they traveled to Montrose High School Friday to face the Red Hawks. The game started with the Red Hawks taking the lead and holding onto it the whole game. The game was very physical with the Bulldogs having 25 fouls and the Red Hawks having 15. Palisade had three players foul out including Hunter Howard, Josh Zotto, and Nick Campbell. Coach Cory kept telling the boys, “Do your job.” The Bulldogs stayed in the game the entire time, unfortunately still taking a 44-53 loss.
The Bulldogs had to shake off the loss Friday night because they had to turn around and host the Grand Junction Tigers Saturday night. The Bulldogs were itching for a win and it came out when the Bulldogs took a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. Similar to the Montrose game this game was also very physical because the Tigers were not going down without a fight. Toward the end of the game, it was back and forth with all the fouls and players shooting free throws. The Tigers came back after the fourth quarter outscoring the Bulldogs in the other three quarters. Luckily with the lead they acquired in the first quarter, the Bulldogs were able to take the win 52-48.
The Palisade Bulldogs then had two days off before they headed to Fruita High School to face the Wildcats. Unfortunately, the Wildcats dominated the Bulldogs by 45 points with a score of 59-14.
Nick Campbell, a senior for Palisade, commented on the weekend, “I feel like it went pretty good but then we started to get ahead of ourselves.” His favorite part of the weekend was winning against Junction and competing against Montrose. Even though they lost they stayed in the game compared to last year when they played them they lost by quite a bit more.
At this point in the season, the Bulldogs have a record of 8 wins and 7 losses. They have not had any of their league games yet. However, they will have their first league game at home Friday at 7:30 p.m. They will face the Glenwood Springs Demons who have a record of 6 wins and 7 losses.
