As wrestling season comes to an end, the senior wrestlers are cherishing their last moments of high school wrestling. There are seven seniors on the Palisade boys wrestling team. These seniors include Keyton Young, Tyrus DeSpain, James Arias-McGinnett, Warrington Baker, Dawson David, Deangelo Dyer, and Dakota Hatcher.
We had the pleasure of interviewing three of these boys to talk about their season and the life of a high school wrestler. In our interview with Warrington, Deangelo, and Dakota, we asked them what their best memories were while wrestling at Palisade. Warrington says, “Probably getting my first medal.” Warrington won this medal at the Thomas Jefferson tournament last year and this was a pretty big accomplishment for him. Dakota tells us that his favorite memory was, “Winning my first match and Bill Troutwine being proud of me. That was probably my biggest accomplishment.” Deangelo’s favorite memory this season was, “Winning my first match which was against a 300 lb kid from Cedaredge.” After months of hard work and dedication towards wrestling, we asked the boys what their biggest accomplishment was from this season. Warrington’s biggest accomplishment was making it in the Daily Sentinel, Dakota’s biggest accomplishment was making the head coach proud, and Deangelo’s biggest accomplishment was placing 5th at regionals. Every sport comes with its challenges and obstacles. These wrestlers were asked what their challenges were this wrestling season. Dakota tells us that, “I broke my collarbone halfway through the season and I couldn’t wrestle.” Warrington says, “My lungs have been pretty messed up at the end of this season and I didn’t get to wrestle that well at the Salt Lake tournament and at regionals.” Deangelo’s biggest challenge was, “Wrestling with a broken hand.” The three boys were asked what they will miss most about wrestling and they all agreed that they will miss their head coach.
Congratulations to our senior wrestlers for finishing their last season strong and good luck to them with their future plans!
