Marching band has had an amazing season and continues it by winning 2nd place in state this past Monday with a score of 74.10. They qualified for state after winning first at regionals in Class 3A. Not only was Palisade High School successful at Regionals, but Fruita Monument High School, Central High School, and Grand Junction High School also qualified for state as well. They competed against many schools throughout the state in Class 3A, and although it was tough we ended up placing 2nd, only being 1.5 points from first which was D’Evelyn Jr-Sr high school, a private school in Denver. Many people have mixed opinions about the winners of this year and agree that they should be competing in a different class than 3A because they have won so many times. Eli Jordan said this about D’Evelyn, “2nd is really good, but I didn’t like the school that took 1st. I don't think it was really fair for our band to be competing against them.”
Reef Clement, a freshman in marching band, said this about their experience at state, “I think it was definitely worth all of the practice, and I’m excited to have gone through this with the people I did because they all mean a lot to me and so does marching band.” Marley Brown said, “It was a very incredible feeling to finish your final show, and after you built all the connections with people you know and they turn into your family.” Alan Lopez Galarza said, “It was a very interesting experience. It was really fun because you get to show off the final product you’ve worked so hard on with your bandmates.” Gavin Parker said, “It was surreal because we had put our blood, sweat, and tears into it all season, and just waiting for it, and there it was.”
Clearly, State was a successful and rewarding competition for our marching band kids, and we are so proud of how they represented us amongst all the schools.
