Breathe, dive, and just keep swimming. This past Saturday, the girls swim team had an epic meet in Montrose. “I love swimming,” says Sam Alexander, a sophomore at Palisade, “It’s basically cardio underwater and I can burn four-thousand calories a day.” Sam has been swimming for 4 years and loves it. She is on varsity and breaststroke is her favorite swimming style. Since Palisade is so small, the swimmers team up with Grand Junction High’s swimmers and compete together. Races range from 100 yards to 400 yards. Races can either be relays or competed individually. The Glenwood Springs team won the overall title with a leading 310 points followed by Gunnison, Grand Junction, Montrose, Moffat County, Aspen, and Delta. The final event in the competition was the 400-yard freestyle relay where our Grand Junction Relay team won along with the 200-yard medley. Only swimmers competed, divers did not. This year, freshmen comprise over half of the team, and we can’t wait to see where these new and young swimmers could end up this year. On Wednesday, the divers competed at Fruita. Their next meet is this Saturday at 11 am at the CMU pool. Senior Night will also be that day and starts at 12:30.
