This week we have had the pleasure of interviewing Malakhi Espinosa, a senior at Palisade, for our male athlete of the week. Malakhi has been playing football for 11-13 years, and for our school all 4 years he has been there. We asked how he got into playing football, “My parents kinda just put me in it. They realized I was really good and so I just stuck with it and fell in love with it.” Malakhi plays the position of our starting quarterback and some defense. We asked him to share with us his favorite part about being in football, “Playing with my team, I like overall just playing with the team bringing the energy up and knowing that you have to win a game with as team and not just by yourself.” We asked Malakhi who his inspiration for football is, “Probably my dad. My dad pushes me and makes me do all this stuff because he sees potential in me and knows I can be something great so I really look up to him.” Malakhi is planning as of right now to go to Western college after high school and continue his football career. We asked him what are some of his hobbies outside of school, “I like to go camping, fishing, do anything that is kind of really competitive.” With the football season coming to an end with playoffs and state championships, we asked Malakhi what he thinks the team's biggest obstacle was this year, “I think our biggest obstacle this year was coming together as a team. When we went to western camp we really played together as a team and as a fist, but at the beginning of our season this year we didn’t really play so good and we played individually. These last 3,4 games we have really started coming together and I think that is why we are so successful right now.”
Malakhi believes the football team can win these next two games and make it to state, we all should make sure to wish the football team the best of luck this upcoming weekend with the 2nd round of playoffs.
