The US is running into a diesel shortage causing issues all around. With the majority of cars being driven today, diesel supply getting lower can be a risk. Especially when it doesn’t just come to the cars people drive but the supply all over. Semi trucks, trains, and boats all run off on diesel. If those types of machinery aren’t getting the diesel to transfer materials and goods over to us that could cause so many more shortage issues than just diesel, like certain supplies for stores, equipment and material for companies, and food. Terri Webb, an owner of a truck that runs off of diesel has this to say: “It’s not a good thing for us to be running low on diesel. I’m worried it’s going to make the prices for it higher even though it’s already more expensive than gas because the demand is higher itself. And it can make us go back to how it was in 2020 when there was barely anything on the grocery store shelves. Because all of our delivery shipments are from trucks and boats that run off on diesel. So I am really hoping that it doesn’t end up being like that again.” Diesel is also used for our bigger transportation machinery because unlike gas it’s what allows them to carry and pull as much weight as they do. If they were to use gas on a semi truck it would just burn through and wouldn’t work. So it is actually our only way to get all of our needs when and where we need them. Let’s hope that the diesel shortage fades away and we don’t have to worry about a grocery store repeat of 2020.
