On Tuesday, November 8, millions of people across the United States cast their ballots for the high staked midterm elections. Who controls the house and senate after the dust settles can lead to more discussion of things like abortion, gun control, sanctions on Russia, and growing tensions between parties in America.
All over America, counties faced redistricting, a gerrymandering tactic to capture votes for a certain party by moving the party's voters into certain districts. We say redistricting here in Colorado, where District 3 (Mesa Counties District), was moved to capture Republican Party Votes. Redistricting has changed how we view some of these elections, making figures from the 2020 election almost irrelevant. This in turn has turned Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania into huge battleground states.
To get some results, here in our own state, incumbent Jared Polis won the race for governor against Heidi Ganahl. In Pennsylvania Fetterman, who recently suffered a stroke rendering him unable to comprehend speech, just barely won the race for senate against former TV show star Dr. Oz. No major sites have called a winner in Georgia as the race between incumbent Warnock and challenger Herschel Walker, a former NFL player, is extremely close with Warnock leading by >30,000. Finally, even closer to home, at the point of writing this article, Adam Frisch leads against Lauren Boebert by just 64 votes. More than 95% of votes across district 3 are in. The nation's eyes are on our district and with the race likely just coming down to a few hundred votes, this race shows the importance of getting out and casting your vote.
