As the holiday season approaches, so does the lack of food for those who want to celebrate. Just 44% of families with children are confident they have food for their children this season. In the U.S. throughout the year as many as 34 million, 9 million of those children, live in homes with little to no food. Seeing these effects not only throughout the year but especially during the holiday season when people should be celebrating is saddening. Because of this Palisade High School has its annual food drive here at the school! From November 7th to November 18th the food drive is open for you to bring food to your fourth-period class which will be counted each Friday. The more nutritious the food the more points you get. The items that would get you more points would be the more healthy and protein-dense food options. The winning class gets a pizza party for that class to have after the drive is over. This means it doesn’t just benefit the people in need and the hungry this holiday season, but also makes sure the biggest contributors get noticed and rewarded.
Ian Shiao, a member of StuCo, said, “The food drive is our way of getting the school involved in the community by donating food for people this season. All the food goes to the Clifton Salvation Center.”
Clearly, this is such an amazing and thoughtful way to watch the school get together and make a difference in the community. Good luck to all the classes in the running.
