It’s been four long years since the beloved Black Panther superhero movie came out in 2018, becoming many fans' new favorite Marvel movie. The story, based off of Stan Lee’s comics, follows T’Challa becoming the Black Panther as he fights for his rightful place as king of Wakanda. Full of action and adventure, the movie earned praise for its almost entire Black lead cast, and paved the way for the film studio's first Black director, Ryan Coogler. Since then, the story of the Black Panther has grown and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in theaters this Friday as the second installment to the beloved movie. In 2020, the Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, died from colon cancer and many have still not forgotten. Fans are still somber about Boseman’s death, but are excited to see where the story will go. An article from Digital Spy states that the sequel will be honoring the legacy of Chadwick by not recasting the role of T’Challa. “‘There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us,’ said Marvel Studios’ EVP Victoria Alonso.” So far, the only plot about the movie that we know is that it follows the Wakandans protecting their kingdom from world powers after King T’Challa’s death. Many movie trailers and even the poster itself have confirmed that Shuri, T’Challa’s younger sister, is the new Black Panther as she is seen front and center with the suit behind her. Charles Ames, a sophomore at Palisade who is a Marvel fan says, “I’m hoping that it can have cameos of some of my favorite characters. I don’t know what they’ll do with Chadwick gone, but I’m excited to see where it goes.” Fans are all very ecstatic to see what the new movie has to offer, so let the countdown begin. WAKANDA FOREVER!
