On November 9, 2022 is a time that is dreaded to most. Parent teacher conferences. Many may dislike the thought of their parents talking to teachers whether they have bad grades or not. While some may think having a parent conference every 4 quarters is uncalled for and unnecessary, and some could just care less about the conference’s seeing as their parents may not attend them.
Looking at many different perspectives coming from seniors, sophomores, and freshmen, there was an end agreement on how essential the conferences were to many freshmen and even sophomores. This also includes that the teachers get to see a glimpse of their students personal life rather than just at school.
Ryker Harsha stated, “I think it’s a good thing that the teachers get to meet the parents because they get to let their parents know how their kids may behave when in school. For the kids that always act out it’s a good thing that the parents get to hear that so their kids can kind of straighten out,” adding in to what Ryker said the parents get to see if their kid is struggling with the content being learned. Seeing as how Ryker is a senior, he has already experienced the years throughout high school as well as understanding how one should act.
Hunter Wagner also added, “Some parents may not feel the need to.” Joe Morgan added onto this statement by saying, “With all this new technology parents could easily see their kids’ grades and email their teachers about how they are doing in class, but it’s a good thing for freshmen.” Hunter then said, “Yeah no I definitely agree with that, I think incoming freshmen need it the most especially with how they act, meaning as they are still growing up a bit. I think with their parents occasionally coming in helps keep them in line.” Hunter Wagner and Joe Morgan are also seniors so they know their way around high school as well.
In an interview with Brady Fentor, a freshman he said, “I think they are pretty necessary, I think It’s good that the parents get to meet their kids’ teachers every quarter because it’s like a quick recap of how the quarter went and to see their progress.” Brady also agrees that the conferences may be more important for freshmen rather than seniors because seniors have the insight of high school throughout the years.
