Palisade Senior, Trey Hitzemann, is the male Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. As of now, Trey only plays one sport which is football. Trey plays left tackle and defensive end. Trey was asked how he got into the sport and he responded with, “I have been playing football since I was 5 years old. My family and my friend group were all football players when I was young. We all kind of just got into it and I have always loved it since I was young” Trey has only played three games so far this season due to a knee injury. Trey said, “Last year (Junior season) I got hurt twice, which were some minor injuries. I had to have surgery after the season to fix the damaged ligaments. At camp over the summer, I tore a screw out of my knee cap. The recovery took a little longer than expected. It ended up taking me out 6-7 weeks of the season.” Being back in the game must feel rewarding for Trey. He said, “It has felt really good. I just love playing football. Getting back out there felt really nice and just to get back to what I love.” Trey has had an amazing 3 games. With only 3 games played, he has a total of 5 solo tackles and 13 total tackles. He also has caused one fumble. With this, he was asked what his greatest accomplishment is and replied with, “My greatest accomplishment is getting looked at by colleges. A lot of people don’t even get the opportunities. I have been blessed with the opportunities to be looked at by colleges. I worked pretty hard to get there.” After a long season of trying to get back on the right track he needed to be on, Trey couldn’t have done it by himself. He said, “My dad is my biggest inspiration. Seeing him work through a lot of stuff has always been a good inspiration for me.” Trey plans to continue his football career in college. He said, “I will probably end up playing football at the division 2 or division 1 level.” Trey has been going to Palisade High School since freshman year. He said, “I am going to miss how tight the football team is. Everybody is so close and everybody has such a tight connection. It is a completely different family than anything else I have ever been involved in.” Trey is almost done with his days as a Palisade Bulldog. Wish him luck as he finishes out strong.
