On Sunday, October 23, 2022 Boris Johnson, the former U.K Prime Minister, announced that he would be dropping out of the race for the leader of the conservative party. He would be ending a short-lived, high-profile attempt to return to the prime minister’s job he was ousted from little more than three months ago. It is believed that he did this to avoid a cascade of scandals and accusations, from his time as Prime Minister. In a statement produced, Johnson claimed “I know there are many people who are relieved, and perhaps quite a few who will also be disappointed. I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world, but them's the breaks.” To get more intel on this story, I asked Palisade’s very own Sean Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy has been a teacher for 33 years, and teaches social studies, economics, AP Human Geography, and law related EP. Mr. Kennedy believes “Boris Johnson resigned because he was losing confidence in the party, he’s still a member of the tory party, but he had to step down due to some allegations. He was being an ineffectual leader, he wasn't doing anything great and he wasn’t doing anything terrible.” Johnson’s drop out of the race leaves his rival Rishi Sunak to be the next leader of the party, who was the previous finance minister. Kennedy states “England has very bad economic problems, and sky high inflammation and can’t afford gas. They are trying to see if this New Prime Minister will fix these problems.
