Tennis is not only physically challenging, with its full body effort to score points, but quite the mental game as well. With every match players must calculate the exact way to hit the ball in order to outsmart their opponents. After hours of hard work and dedication to this craft, our tennis Bulldogs were able to make it to state. Our doubles team, Andrew Kirschenmann and Canaan Ross, both sophomores at Palisade, were able to work their way to the top. Recently, Kirschenmann and Ross went to state in Pueblo, Colorado to showcase their skills and compete against the best. Even though they put their best feet forward, they unfortunately did not make it farther than this level. “It was kind of disappointing we didn’t win a match, but I mean obviously state has the best competition. I wasn’t really expecting to do well, I'm just happy we made it and got the state experience.” Andrew explained. It is important for our Dogs to keep their heads high even in defeat, and always be setting goals for the future. Kirschenmann explained his season and the accomplishments of his goals, first of which was making it on the varsity team. “For the season I definitely got a lot better while playing matches, like adapting to the other team, learning how to deal with it mentally, and learning how to be a better player. You have to be hitting better shots, with more power and more spin, and have smarter shots and better placement.” he states. Next year they hope to make it further in state, but they are happy they were able to show off the talent from the Grand Valley. Great job this season tennis players, we can’t wait to see you next year! Go Bulldogs!
