Last Wednesday october 12, four teens were on their way home from a party when they unexpectedly rolled their car off a steep bank. There were three 18-year-old males and a 17-year-old female in the car. The three young males were residents of Paonia. They attend North Fork High School in Hotchkiss Colorado. The female victim attended Delta High School and was a lifelong resident in delta. At around three in the morning the young adults were on their way back to Paonia from Hotchkiss. The car was traveling at very high speeds when the 18-year-old driver lost control of the car resulting in them rolling down a steep bank. They traveled down 100 feet. Three victims who were all passengers in the vehicle were ejected. Alexi Armendariz,17, and Edwardo Carrillo,18, passengers were dead upon EMS arrival. The driver was in the car when police showed up with minor injuries. The other survivor, an 18-year-old male was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Drugs and alcohol paraphernalia were found in the debrah of the accident. The passing of these two young people have impacted the lives of several high school students even here at Palisade. The two families that have lost their loved ones have go fund me accounts set up to help with funeral arrangements. Help support the families in need. (In memory of Alexi Armendariz) (Edwardo .Eddie. Carrillo). The accident is still under investigation for possibly being caused by drugs and alcohol. Approximately 1600 teens in the US die from driving under the influence each year. The average number of students enrolled in high schools in the US is 800. Meaning two high schools full of students die every year. Remember the dangers you face every time you get into a vehicle and stay safe on the roads.
