Thursday night students, supporters, family, and players gathered in support of the Homecoming volleyball game. The Homecoming volleyball game is always one to watch. Extra students gather in the gym for the game with the annual bonfire following after the game. The game was a nail-biter all the way through with three out of the five sets being won by only two points. In the first set, the Palisade Bulldogs dominated the Battle Mountain Huskies with their serves winning the set 25-11. Unfortunately, they lost a few tough plays in the second and third sets resulting in the Huskies taking both sets 23-25. The Bulldogs came back in the fourth set and proved they weren’t going down without a fight. They won the fourth set 25-18 sending the game into a fifth set. The fifth set is a race to see who can get to 15 points instead of the regular 25. The Bulldogs and Huskies showed they both came with the fight to win. Unfortunately, the Huskies took the fifth set winning it 17-19. The Huskies took home the winning three out of the five sets.
Senior, Sophia DeWitt, comments on the season so far saying,” I feel pretty good about it, we have taken a lot of hits this year but we have still pushed through. We have a couple of tough matches coming up but I am super excited.”
The Bulldogs have won 8 games and lost 7 games. They have a league record of 4-3. As of right now, they are 2nd in the 4A Western Slope League. Dewitt says something they need to improve on is, “starting off aggressive in every match and maintaining that throughout the match consistently instead of playing down to our opponent’s level.”
