On October 4th and 6th, Palisade High School students and teachers participated in the most athletic homecoming event, powderpuff.
9 female students of every grade were chosen to participate and join teams of their grade. These teams were all challenged and competed against each other fighting to receive the Spirit Bone. The senior class competed against the freshman, the juniors competed against the sophomores, and the teachers competed against teachers. The sophomores played their first game against the juniors. After beating the juniors with a score of 15-0, the sophomores then took their skills to the championship against the seniors, who beat the freshmen. The sophomores won the championship with a score of 12-15. Sophomore Brenae Snober played first base in the tournament. She says “I think we did really well. We had good team spirit and our coaches were on us all the time which helped. It was great.” One of the coaches for the sophomore team, Ronaldo Cordova, says “My team did amazing and I'm really proud of them. They worked their butts off. We had a few bad positions where we couldn’t catch the ball. That's one thing that we need to improve for next year.” Ronaldo says that the team's strengths were “Positioning. Whenever the ball was kicked we always had someone there. Congratulations to the sophomores who won the student powderpuff competition.
Two days later on October 6th, the female teachers played their game of powderpuff against the student champions, the sophomores. Originally, the teachers won 10 to 9, but that was before we had to look at a few unfair calls. Two runs from the teacher team didn’t count due to bad calling by the refs. The points were taken off for the teachers and the sophomores rightfully took their win. After 3 innings of hard playing and hard competition, the sophomores won their last game with a score of 9 to 8.
