Both the Palisade freshman and JV football teams played away games on Monday the 3rd. Although the JV was the only team who brought home a win, both teams played with passion.
Our Palisade freshmen played against the Fruita Wildcats, who are now a 5-0 team. Nathan Umberger, who plays wide receiver, said “We started off pretty good. We were the first to score. When we went into halftime it was a tie game. Going into the third quarter everyone was getting tired. It started going downhill after we fumbled the ball and we were giving up points.” Our Bulldogs held strong in the first half against a team who was 4-0. Nathan said that some of their highlights were “All of the outside plays worked a lot and everybody did their best.” According to Nathan, their greatest challenge is “Holding onto the ball. We turn the ball over a lot.” Some things to look forward to in future games is to “Play as a team and hopefully get better.” The freshman football team lost 8-21 and now has a record of 2-3.
Our Palisade JV played against the Delta Panthers and played like they meant it. Sophomore Gage Miller, who is a tight end and defensive end said, “We were kind of flat the first half as we didn't have much offense going for us. Second half we did a lot better. Although our passing game wasn’t really working for us, we had some big runs. Our defense was kind of lackluster.” When asked what went well, Gage said “The second half was better than the first. We had a couple of interceptions and a couple of long runs. It really helped bring us to victory.” Our JV team walked off the field that day with a victory. Their record is now 3-1. As well as both teams are doing, they are preparing to be a great varsity team ahead in the future.
