New York Mayor Eric Adams, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and Colorado Governor Polis had a discussion about what city should be responsible and support the influx of migrants. Due to weather conditions lately and workforce there have been a lot of travel cancellations for a lot of migrants. At this time there have not been any scheduled buses for migrants from Denver to Chicago. Though the chartered transportation from Denver to New York has been successfully completed. With all of the weather and work conditions many migrants arrive in Colorado expecting to be transported somewhere else. But they can not be, and about 70% of the migrants do not consider Denver, Colorado to be their final destination. With the huge waves and transportations of migrants to New York, Mayor Adams had this to say about the stress of the whole situation, “We’ve done our job. There’s no more room at the end, but we are compelled by local laws here that we must provide shelter.” This shows that New York seems to be getting annoyed and unwelcoming with all of the migrants that are surging into the state. Here are Mr. Has’s thoughts on the topic; “ I think that ultimately this is an issue with federalism in a place where we have two different states with different opinions on what should happen with migrants. In Colorado we’re more open with migrants compared to these two other states who haven’t been. If we bus them to those states the migrants aren’t going to be happy, whereas here in Colorado we would be more okay with them being in our borders. Ultimately it’s difficult to say whether it’s right or wrong because at the end of the day if those cities don’t want migrants there, they should have a say. But then if those migrants don’t want to stay in Colordo, we shouldn’t force them to stay.” So it’s kind of debatable if the whole situation is fair to New York and Chicago to have all of the migrants bussed to them, or if it’s fair or unfair to keep most of them in Colorado.
