Principal's Corner
Happy Friday Wildcats!
With the flowers blooming and the sun shining, we are so excited that Spring has sprung! This time of year always makes us reflect on exciting new chapters for our learners and the amazing quarter ahead for all our FMS community. As we charge into the final 7 weeks of the school year, we will all be busy with everything that comes with this time of year, but I hope we all may pause from time to time and reflect on the power of community and belonging that comes with being in the FMS Family. We are so very proud of our staff and students and look forward to finishing the year in true Wildcat style!
If your student has a Chromebook checked out to them and they are NOT in Algebra 1, the Chromebook and Charger needs to be returned IMMEDIATELY. We need as many Chromebooks as we can gather for CMAS Testing. Students are only allowed to have Chromebooks checked out to them for short periods of time (illness, vacation). Thank you for your help with this!
Report Cards for 3rd Quarter are now posted on ParentVUE.
There will be No School Friday, April 10. Enjoy your day off!
Mark your calendars for our final Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday, April 13 from 3:30pm-7:30pm
The April 2026 edition of The Fruita Feed is now available. We hope you enjoy our latest edition!
FMS uses a Google Calendar to share information with Families. We encourage you to check this each week in the Friday Facts newsletter for all our up to date information. You can also add it or any of the activities we have on it to your own personal calendar. Friday Facts Calendar

FMS will be participating in CMAS testing on April 6, 7, and 9. There will not be a testing session on April 8 because of a track meet. It is important for your learner to get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast on these days! Please help your child show what they know on this important measure of academic growth. For more information, please visit the Parent Assessment Page
Thank you to everyone who answered the call we sent last week asking for CMAS Snacks. Your donations are greatly appreciated and we feel the love you are sending the students during this test time!
PTO will host their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 8 at 4:30pm in the FMS Library. We look forward to having you there!
Paraprofessionals Day at FMS!
Our paras are truly the heartbeat of so much of what we do. They show up with patience, compassion, flexibility, and an unwavering commitment to supporting our students and staff. Whether they’re working one-on-one, jumping in wherever needed, or offering encouragement during tough moments, their presence makes a lasting difference.
We are incredibly grateful for each of them and the care they pour into their work. Please join me in celebrating and thanking all of our paraprofessionals for the vital role they play in our school community.
Below is the application for your current 8th graders who are interested in being part of StuCo at FMHS next year. Kids can complete the application and ask for teacher recommendations to be part of the StuCo Class. The class will count as a high school elective. Applications are due Monday, April 13. Freshmen will be a part of the class next year and not have to do it as a lunchtime club.
If you have questions about FMHS StuCo, please email Julie Blevins at FMHS Student Council Advisor
We ordered a few extra!
Our final order — including the total number of copies — has officially been placed!
Now we wait for them to be printed, bound, and shipped. We can’t wait for everyone to see this year’s book!
We ordered a few extra!
Great news!
Our Yearbook budget allowed us to order 50 extra copies beyond what was already sold! If you meant to purchase a yearbook but didn’t get the chance, you can still snag a copy for your middle schooler.
Simply visit jostensyearbooks.com to purchase yours before they sell out.
Once they’re gone — they’re gone!
----------------------------------------------
What happens next?
Yearbooks are printed and bound in Tennessee before being shipped out for delivery in mid-May. Once they arrive, the Yearbook Committee will sort and organize the books for distribution to advisory classrooms.
Students will receive their yearbooks in Advisory on Wednesday, May 13th and will have an entire week to collect signatures from friends and teachers!
Not sure if you have already purchased a yearbook this year? Email roxanne@d51schools.org and I can double check for you!
*Minimum purchase requirements and eligibility restrictions apply.

Happy Friday!
During the 4th Quarter, we are "rolling" out the DUCT TAPE ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE!
Here is how it works - for every week your student has demonstrated 90% or better attendance, they will "earn" a foot of duct tape to be awarded at our end-of-quarter assembly and celebration. During that assembly, students get to tape a select staff member to a wall! This is a fun way to celebrate and encourage good attendance!
For more information, reach out to Mr. Neal. Wahoo!
The district has a goal of achieving a 95% attendance rate for middle schools. We will be showing our weekly attendance rate in the Friday Facts each week. April 3:
Track & Field Practice started on Monday, March 23. We have 61 7th graders and 53 8th graders participating this year! Our first meet will be Wednesday, April 8 at Stocker Stadium (hosted by Mount Garfield Middle) at 3:45pm.

For more information, please email Mrs. Hurshman at mira.hurshman@d51schools.org
Pick Up & Drop Off
Please review the Pick Up & Drop-Off Guidelines for FMS. The first few days of school can cause quite a log jam so please be patient and remember we are next to a high school with new drivers. Safety First!
Parents - a couple of Drop-off/Pick-up procedures to clear up:
Once students arrive on campus for the day, they are not allowed to leave campus to walk to Maverik or other areas off campus.
Do not use the west lot in front of the school. That is designated for staff parking.
Do not drive on the Canal Road
Do not park along the sidewalk curb on the northwest side of the building. This area is designated for Special Education pick-up, and it doesn't leave the buses enough space.
Only drop-off or pick-up in the East lot or the East drop off loop. The Main Bus Loop and the staff parking lot is NOT for pick up and drop off
When exiting the parking lot after school, at the corner of J Road and Fremont, please ONLY turn right or go straight through the neighborhood. Please do not turn left. You will be turning directly into kids crossing in the crosswalk, and it's a safety issue. We are trying to wave cars through to clear the parking lot as quickly as we can. If you are waiting to turn left, it backs traffic up. Turning left just puts more cars into the already hectic High School traffic.
All D51 Middle Schools use Schoology as the platform for students and parents to see their class progress. Take a few minutes with your students this weekend to look over Schoology (available to students in Classlink).
6th Grade Parents and 7th & 8th Grade New Parents, you should have or will receive an email inviting you to set up a Schoology account.
If you need help with Schoology, including receiving a new code if you deleted the first email, you can complete the FMS Schoology Help Form on our Schoology Help Page
FMS Schoology Help Form: Fill this out if you can't access your student, are having trouble creating an account etc.
