We work to prepare EVERY student to excel in the future they create and in doing so, we hope to offer our students every opportunity to succeed. That's a fundamental part of the STEM Program. We want to provide every resource to our students in order for them to be successful in and out of high school. The STEM Program is more than just 3D printers and cool technology (although we do have a lot of that); it's a mindset that introduces you to new ways of learning. It encourages students to think outside of the box and challenges them to a wide range of STEM concepts.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. At Central High School, it also stands for Strategies That Engage Minds! As the only STEM High School on the Western Slope of Colorado, we approach education through an interdisciplinary approach to help students succeed in their pathway to the future. Whether college-bound or career-bound, STEM students get a hands-on, problem-based learning approach.
STEM Students are not taught everyting by a teacher but rather use inquiry, application, demonstration, and communication to increase their learning and understanding. All skills that directly translate to life.
Academics are rigorous when students are challenged to acquire and use new cognitive skills. Rather than regurgitating information on a test, students engage in relevant projects using their skills to demonstrate their understanding.
The Central High School Problem Solving Process guides much of our work in visioning, designing, implementing, and monitoring classroom instruction, belonging, and behavior expectations, creating and implementing systems across our building.
This graphic and its corresponding principals are based on the design principles of engineering and solving problems. We aspire to use our Warrior Problem Solving Process on a daily basis. When our students are equipped to be a long time learner and problem solver, their are prepared for any obstacle in life.
