GLEN ELLYN District 41

5th grade band

Welcome to District 41 5th Grade Beginning Band!

Instrumental music is one of the most exciting and rewarding educational opportunities our school district has to offer. The experience is wonderful for children and parents alike, and participating in band offers your child benefits that will last for a lifetime.

There are many educational reasons why being involved in music is beneficial to your child, and you may have read about them in the news: improved test scores, academic excellence, higher-level brain functions, college scholarships, and more.

But to be honest, children choose band for different reasons than higher SAT scores in high school and those reasons are important, too.

Children want to be involved in different activities and feel that they belong. Being in band is one way for children to be involved in a non-competitive school activity. Children want to be with their peers and be part of a team. Being in band is like being on a team where everyone works together, but with a major difference: in band no one ever sits on the bench, we all play! Music gives children an outlet for creativity and expression, and develops self confidence. It teaches responsibility and discipline at a young age. And - it's fun! These are just a few reasons why band is so special.

As a music educator, and someone who has been involved with music since I was young, I want to share the experiences that I have had for my entire life. I am passionate in believing that participating in music is one of the most impactful experiences a child can have.

Welcome to the District 41 Band program and the start of a wonderful journey!
