I have been a Science teacher for sevens years. I teach EL Physical Science and Biology at Niles North. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology with a concentration in Genetics. My research was focused on the affects of different amounts of folate in prenatal cranial development. My graduate degree was focused on the use of Funds of Knowledge and native language to learn Math and Science Language. I taught in CPS for five years before coming to D219. I work hard to teach my students to analyze things from multiple perspectives and never to loose sight of the bigger picture. I sponsor Climate Change Panel, an after school club that focuses on Climate Change advocacy and education. I also help with Outdoors Club, an after school club that takes students on hikes and explores local forest preserves.
My running background has put me in a position to coach distance running. I am the Assistant Coach for Boys Cross Country and Girls Track.
I post a lot of our adventures on instagram. Feel free to find our activities @ms.jgarciann @nilesnorthccp or @nnvikingsboysxc.
