What responsibilities go along with each position on the board?
All board positions meet with band directors as a board throughout the calendar year to plan and coordinate all band activities that require parent support.
All positions attend booster meetings.
Most of our efforts center around the marching season and camp in August which will require extra planning and time.
All positions can and should respond to parent questions about volunteering, expenses, etc.
What we don't do: Plan for and operate the band, its program, etc. That job belongs to the band directors. We support the program.
Specifics:
President: Oversees all parent volunteer activities, plans with the band directors, monitors booster email account, coordinates signups and supplies, oversees budget and committees, and the famous all other duties that are needed for a successful band season.
VP: Supports the president, coordinates volunteers at activities, helps oversee committees such as fundraising.
Secretary: Monitors email account, manages rosters, coordinates and handles communication to parents.
Treasurer: Manages budget, checking account, expenses.
Co-Treasurer: Assists treasurer, especially needed during band camp
There are Booster bylaws that should be revisited and reviewed that have position descriptions. Over time, some of those responsibilities have shifted so looking at what is in that document would be helpful. However, what's listed above is a fairly accurate representation of each position as it was for the 2024 calendar year, with some wiggle room when needed.
Most importantly - these are volunteer positions. We acknowledge that everyone has a life outside the band (GASP) and when life gets busy, we need to be flexible and understanding.
