Background

The EDC was founded when Mae was a young adult getting ready to attend college, and she was inspired to join when one of her classes took a field trip to tour the EDC facility. She went to college for environmental science, where she met her husband, and eventually became a scientist at the EDC. But recently, her life has seemed a bit lackluster. She was in a loveless marriage up until she divorced her husband, and she was able to help Joy get into the EDC so now has nothing to help her daughter work towards. She is lonely, and believes that it is too late for her to do anything new with her life.
