How long is the rental period?

Your rental runs from 5 PM the evening before your reserved date to 5 PM the following day. This gives you plenty of time to paint, let it dry, and grab photos before school.

Example:

If your rental date is September 10, you may begin painting at 5 PM on September 9, and your rental ends at 5 PM on September 11.

Who paints the rock?

You do!  Families bring their own paint and supplies and decorate the rock however they’d like. It’s a fun, creative way to celebrate your child.

What kind of paint should I use?

For the best results, we recommend:

• Spray paint for covering the previous design quickly and evenly

• Acrylic paint (or acrylic paint pens) for your artwork, lettering, and details

These hold up well outdoors and give you bright, clean lines.

Do I need to prime the rock?

You don’t need a formal primer — just spray paint over the previous image to create a fresh base.

Most families use white or black as their base coat, but any solid color works.

Any tips for painting?

Yes! Here are our best practices:

• Bring drop cloths to protect clothes and the ground

• Wear old clothes or smocks

• Use spray paint for fast, smooth coverage

• Use acrylic paint or paint pens for details and lettering

• Sketch your design on paper first

• Bring a flashlight if painting after sunset

• Take photos in the morning when the light is best

What if it rains?

The rock can be painted in light rain, but if weather is severe, you may need to adjust your timing within your rental window. The PTO cannot reschedule due to weather, but the 24‑hour window gives flexibility.

Can I reserve multiple days?

Yes — as long as the dates are available. Each day is a separate rental.

Where does the money go?

All rental proceeds support PTO programs, events, and classroom needs at CWE.
