After reading the first six chapters of Gordon Korman's Ungifted, 4th and 5th-grade students in the gifted program were inspired by the robotic project featured in the novel. Their challenge? To recreate the robot "Tin Man" from the book and then customize it with their own unique twist. Drawing on their creativity and teamwork, the students delved into designing, building, and programming a functional version of the robot. Along the way, they experimented with materials, faced unexpected obstacles, and discovered the true meaning of innovation. As they put their individual spins on the Tin Man project, the group learned not only about engineering and robotics but also about collaboration, problem-solving, and the importance of thinking outside the box. With each new addition to their creation, the students unlocked new insights into the power of imagination and the joy of working together toward a common goal.
