Welcome to Art Class at McMullan!

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

The goal of our McMullan Elementary Art program is for our students to feel a sense of accomplishment and ownership over their creativity through a variety of projects to help explore many types of art styles and media. This year, especially, I hope to positively move forward and smoothly readjust back into a safe and creative environment. Please check with your child’s homeroom teacher to confirm his or her Art schedule and review the Art rules and policies, below, with your McMullan Mustang.

Art Rules Expectations

1. Respect Yourself → Be a good citizen. / Participate and try your best. / Have fun & make mistakes.

2. Respect Others → Treat others the way you want to be treated. / Everyone’s art is different. / Don’t interrupt.

3. Respect This Place → Take care of our supplies. / Let’s keep our space tidy. / Return borrowed items.

Grading Policy

Students start each 9 week grading period with a 100 in Participation and an E in Conduct in Art! To maintain these grades, students must participate in the art activity and show that they are trying at the best of their abilities (follow along with instruction and give it their all), and make appropriate behavior choices. If a student does not participate, fails to work on the assignment while the class is working, or makes poor behavior choices frequently enough to prohibit them from participating, this will be reflected on their report card grade.

Good Effort, follows instructions = 95 1 time = S (Satisfactory)

Okay Effort, follows instructions = 90 2 times = S (Satisfactory), Sit Some Effort, loosely follows instructions = 85 3 times = N (Needs Improvement), Sit

Effort, loosely follows instructions = 80 4 times = U (Unsatisfactory)

Lacks effort, loosely follows instructions = 75 or below 5+times = U (Unsatisfactory), Office Referral

It is important to note that art is subjective, and grading art will not be based on the quality of the art, but instead on the effort the student has put into their project during class. I encourage students to do their best, and it will reflect in their work. The aim of art is to give students an outlet to express their creativity, and my intention is to expose them to a variety of skills and techniques that will help them grow as artists. While they do start class at a 100, the grade will lower if they consistently show no effort in trying the activity that I guide them through.

Estimados Padres y Estudiantes:

La meta del programa de Arte en La Escuela Primaria McMullan es que los estudiantes tengan un sentido de orgullo y confianza en sus habilidades artísticas a través de los proyectos que explorarán diferentes tipos de estilos artísticos y una variedad de medios de arte. Este año, espero que todo podamos seguir adelante como años anteriores, y ajustarnos en un ambiente seguro y creativo. Por favor cheque con la maestra/o de su hija/o para confirmar que tenga el horario correcto de Arte, y favor de revisar las reglas y pólizas de mi salon.

Despues de 3 strikes, nadie se gana un premio de la Caja de Tesoros.

Consecuencia Individual:

Primer strike: Advertencia

Segundo strike: Enfócate de nuevo y regresa a tu asiento cuando estés listo.

Tercer strike: Te cambio de lugar y le llamo a tus padres

Política de Calificaciones

Los estudiantes empiezan cada ciclo de las 9 semanas con una calificación de 100 puntos y una “E” en conducta. Para mantener buenas calificaciones, el estudiante debe participar y hacer esfuerzo durante su tiempo en mi clase. Tambien, es importante que el estudiante se comporte correctamente, y siga las reglas. Si el estudiante no participa, no entrega el trabajo, y no sigue las reglas, esto se reflejará en sus calificaciones.

Hizo suficiente esfuerzo y siguió instrucciones = 90 2 vezes = S (Satisfactorio), Sentar durante Extravaganza

Hizo suficiente esfuerzo, le faltaron algunos pasos = 85 3 vezes = N (Necesita Mejorar), Sentara durante la 2a Extravaganza

Hizo algún esfuerzo, le faltaron algunos pasos = 80 4 vezes = U (Unsatisfactory/no satisfactorio)

Casi no hizo esfuerzo = 75 or below 5+vezes = U (Unsatisfactory/no satisfactorio), oficina

Es importante notar que el arte es subjetivo, y por esa razón el arte que su hija/o entregue en mi salón no será calificada por la manera que se mira. En vez de esto, será calificada por el esfuerzo que hizo el estudiante durante el tiempo que estuvo trabajando en el salón. Mis expectativas son que cada estudiante haga lo mejor que pueda, y al fin del día se reflejara en su trabajo. El objetivo de mi clase es darle la oportunidad a los estudiantes que tengan un lugar en donde expresar su creatividad y crecer como artistas.
