Thank you for your interest with volunteering at Independent Elementary. Your active involvement in your child’s education is important and deeply valued. Our volunteer opportunities currently include:

Noon Supervisor

Noon supervisors will support students in recycling, composting, and cleaning while eating, and will monitor behavior using the school positive behavior plan. If you are willing to cover all lunches, multiple days a week throughout the school year, you may apply to become a paid employee.

      • Time commitment: 45 min -- 10 hours per week.
      • Schedule: You may choose to volunteer for all lunches 11-1 or select one or two (45min each). Your choice of days.

Room Parent

As a Room Parent, you are the liaison between the PTA board, other room parents, your teacher, parents, and students. Roles include: Parent Volunteer Coordinator, Class Communicator, PTA Liaison for the Classroom, and Class Party Coordinator. More information can be found HERE.

      • Time commitment: 1-4 hours per week.
      • Schedule: You determine your schedule in collaboration with the classroom teacher and PTA

Campus Beautification Team Member

Coordinate and participate in activities to beautify the INDY gardens and common areas. Depending on the number of volunteers, a small amount of additional time on select weekends to work on gardens.

      • Time commitment: 1-5 hours per month.
      • Schedule: You determine your schedule in collaboration with the PTA

Main Office Support

Work with office staff on special projects including, photocopying, organizing, and teacher/student support.

      • Time commitment: 1-5 hours per month.
      • Schedule: You determine your schedule in collaboration with the office staff.

Welcome Back Movie Night

Organize/coordinate movie night event. Reserve inflatable big screen and projector from local rental company, shop for drinks and concessions (paid for by PTA) prior to event, set up and break down event area, run concession booth during event.

      • Time commitment: A meeting prior to event with VP of Events coordinator, 1-2 hours prior to event, & 2-3 hours during event
      • Schedule: One time event in September

Community Outreach Activity

During Thanksgiving and December holidays coordinate food and gift donations and deliver to the Community Center to support CV residents who are in need.

      • Time commitment: A meeting prior to event with VP of Events coordinator, 1-2 hours prior to event, & 2-3 hours during event
      • Schedule: An event in November and December

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Support

Coordinate decorating teacher lounge, providing a theme luncheon for Independent Staff, and organizing food and supply donations to show the staff how much they're appreciated.

      • Time commitment: 1 or 2 committee meetings. Depending on the number of members, between 2 to 3 hours at event.
      • Schedule: Around 5 luncheon throughout the year.

Library Parent Volunteer

Every year we need parent volunteers to come and support our classes during library time. Parents will be checking books out, checking books in, reminding students if they have an overdue/missing book, re-shelve returned books, and helping students find books they want to check out. It is a great opportunity interact with the whole class.

      • Time commitment: 1 hour per week
      • Schedule: predetermined by classroom teacher --> contact your child's teacher for their scheduled time.

English Learner Advisory Committee Member

The purpose of the ELAC is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners. The committee advises (reviews and comments) the principal and school staff on multiple aspects of school processes and procedures.

      • Time commitment: 1-3 hours per month.
      • Schedule: Meetings will be advertised at the beginning of the year.

School Safety and Security Team Member

Evaluate, discuss, and make suggestions to increase the safety and security of the Independent campus. This is a subcommittee of the School Site Council.

      • Time commitment: 1-2 hours per month.
      • Schedule: You determine your schedule in collaboration with the SSC

Walk-a-thon Support

Help Coordinators with annual fundraiser, communication & promotion, organize volunteers to set up, take down and work event, prizes, etc. .

      • Time commitment: Coordinating Meetings + 2-3 hours during event.
      • Schedule: One time event in October

Valentine's Family Dance @ Canyon

Help organize/coordinate Family Dance. Come up with a theme, order decorations, and food options. Volunteers needed to help with set up/decoration at Canyon Middle School the day before the event (Friday).

      • Time commitment: A meeting prior to event with VP of Events coordinator, 2-3 hours prior to event, 3-4 hours during event, & 2 hours clean up after event
      • Schedule: One time event in February

Back To School Night Fundraiser

Organize the Back to School & Open House Pizza Dinner Sales. Volunteers set up and break down event area, and pick up drinks/food for the event (purchased by the PTA).

      • Time commitment: A meeting prior to event. Depending on the number of members, 1 to 2 hours the day of the event.
      • Schedule: Two nights: TK-2 (8/28) 3rd-5th (8/29)
