Ch. 2: Kinematics

Homework

Thursday, 8/22

Chapter 2

Questions: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 15, 21, 22

Problems: 2, 3, 9, 12, 21, 23, 24, 27, 49, 56, 85

Monday, 8/26

Home Lab: Measure the acceleration of something. Write a short lab report with a description of what you did, a diagram that shows what you measured, data and calculations.

Block Day, 8/27 or 8/28

Chapter 2

Questions: 12, 13, 18, 19, 20

Problems: 35, 36, 39, 42, 45, 57,66, 82

(#45 is challenging. If you get stuck, do the other problems and then come back to it.)

Unit Objectives: 1D Kinematics

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • Explain the similarities and differences between position, speed, velocity, and acceleration

    • Identify the units of these quantities

    • Make and interpret graphs of these quantities as a function of time

  • Analyze whether or not an object is in free fall, as well as whether or not an object is accelerating

  • Solve linear motion problems using kinematics equations

Over the course of this unit, you will:

  • Measure the rate of acceleration due to Earth’s gravity

  • Calculate your own reaction time and hang time

1D Kinematics Test on Thursday, 8/29
